Green Smoothie recipes are popping up all over Pinterest and on some of my favorite blogs.
I decided to throw out every pre-conceived notion that I had about drinking spinach and make my own ‘Green’ Fruit Smoothie
This Green Smoothie recipe from Maria, Two Peas and Their Pod, was my inspiration.
I grabbed some spinach, a few of my favorite fruits…
I tossed them together in my Ninja with some greek yogurt…
added some ice and blended until it was creamy enough to be delicious, but not so thick that I couldn’t drink it with a straw.
Now in the mornings, I get up and make myself a smoothie and drink it while I watch my little mermaid and mermonkey swim.
I’m not traditionally a fan of banana drinks.Β I love bananas and banana pudding and banana bread, but I’ve never been a fan of banana drinks/smoothies, however this drink I love.
This drink is chock full of yumminess and healthy ingredients:
- Bananas give an instant boost of energy and have potassium and vitamin B
- Spinach is a great source ofΒ Vitamins K and A, folate, potassium, Vitamin B6 and protein
- Strawberries are a good source of phenols which are believed to be a great anti-inflammatory,Β they are also believed to be a cancer fighting food
Want the recipe?Β Yes, yes you do π
Have you ever made a green smoothie or any fresh fruit smoothie?Β What are your favorite tricks or ingredients?

I just bought my husband a ninja for Father’s Day because he wants to start doing some smoothies with whey protein (and because my regular blender died but shhhh he thinks it was all about him). But I’m just not sure if I can get on board with spinach in a smoothie. I like raw spinach…and I like it paired with fruit in a salad. I don’t know. I’ll have to put on my big girl panties and give it a try.
put on the big girl panties and try it π You might be surprised, I know that I was π
Also – the Ninja ROCKS!
I was just asking about green smoothie. I saw a unique recipe somewhere from somebody I know and read regularly, but I cannot – for the life of me – figure out who it was! I’ll try this one, though! π
hmmm did you google ‘unique green smoothie’ LOL π
I tried a similar recipe and while it tasted just fine there were flecks of leaves throughout no matter how long I blended. Did you have this issue? I just could not stomach drinking bits of leaves for some reason. I really want green smoothies to work darn it!!
Mary, there were green flecks, but they didn’t bother me… maybe you need a more powerful blender, or maybe blend the ingredients in batches????
Good luck!
Oooooo my favorite blogger blogged something I’ve been dying to try but haven’t had the guts to try. And I love the stuff you make, so now I can make this, because you did π
AWWW π Thank you, Stacey! You’re too sweet π
Delicious and healthy! I’m in for a few of these smoothies π
They’re super yummy Paula! Let me know what you think!
Yum! I’m an absolute smoothie fan and I literally drink them almost every morning. I posted a “green” recipe a couple weeks ago that I created out of sheer curiosity and laziness π I had a box of GoGreens individual packets in my pantry and added one to a favorite smoothie recipe and voila! I was pretty certain in would be nasty and I’d dump it, but I was totally wrong and I’m using those little packets to “green” all my morning favorites. You’ve convinced me though…I’m trying spinach in the morning π
YUM!!! Your Pineapple Blueberry Smoothie sounds fantastic! I’ve never heard of GoGreen….
My friends have been insisting that spinach tastes good in smoothies and for some reason I’m still a little weary. You might have given me the kick I need to give it a try π
You should definitely try it Adrienne! π
Wow, this is really healthy and delicious. I haven’t try to make this one and since I am a tester I will try to create this one this weekend. For sure this one is really spectacular. In fact, by just looking on the ingredients.
I love green smoothies, I just posted my version for one a couple of weeks ago. I’m hopelessly addicted to them now, and love how you can create something new each time, just by using the fruit you have on hand.
YES, exactly! That’s one of my favorite aspects about this… I’m going to have to check out your recipe, too! I have several recipes bookmarked and I need to go back to them.
What a great green smoothie! It’s hard to drink something much healthier and tastier than this!! Great smoothie! Thanks for hosting this great hop!
You’re so welcome, thank you so much for linking up! π Can’t wait to check out your Cucumber Drink π
The green smoothies really are popping up everywhere, aren’t they? We have the Daddy Smoothie Cafe in the summer, and I think I might have to see if he’ll try one of these. I’m SO with you on bananas though. I just can’t do them in a smoothie. But they work in the green smoothie? Truly?
Daddy Smoothie Cafe, huh? π Sounds nice! What do y’all make your smoothies in?
Try it by starting with 1/2 a banana and go from there – I think adding in the additional citrus and berries really does make a difference. π
I’m lucky – I have a VitaMix, which is awesome for smoothies (and other things). He usually does a blueberry/strawberry/banana/orange combo, but the banana flavor is still too strong for me – but there are ALL sorts of variations depending on what I have in the house. I think there will be some mango smoothies coming up really soon, I have 4 in my fruit basket. It’s nice to have a teacher home in the summer where he can have traditions like that – the wee ones love it!
Thanks for hosting! I shared a recipe for spinach tart and also food science information on soaking beans.
Hey Amanda, thank you for linking up and saying Hi! π I can’t wait to see the info on the food science of soaking beans… I had no idea π
I also shared an article on omega 3 for depression.
I haven’t try putting spinach in my fruit smoothie. Is it really taste good?
I killed my poor blender a few weeks ago. I’ll have to try this when I replace it!
Will be trying this recipe but subbing the greek yogurt for soy due to allergies. My daughter and I are smoothie addicts. So, I’m always on the look out for other healthy smoothie recipes.
