In case you haven’t heard yet, the wonderful Tricia, from Once A Month Mom and I are collaborating on a project for October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness month.

The past two years, I’ve hosted Blogging for Boobs, where people have donated items for giveaways, I donated all my ad revenue, hosted a donation site and button and donated my entire blog for a month of posts from people who’ve been affected by breast cancer: whether they have it, have had it, have a family member or friend with it, have lost someone to it….  it’s been a powerful experience for me.

Tricia and I want to start in October and then have this project continue to change lives and make a difference for the rest of the year and years to come.  We’d love to do this every single year and the only way that we can do that is with y’all’s help.

  • Tricia and I have created a facebook page:  Saving Second Base Please “like” us and help spread the word!
  • We’re on TWITTER!!! @Savng2ndBase (i know it’s missing an i but someone already HAS saving2ndbase and isn’t using it :-{ ) Follow us and spread the word!
  • Post our button

  • Send us your story and recipe:  one that reminds you of/celebrates someone who has fought with, is living with, is kicking cancer’s ass, has lost the fight…. send a story, a recipe, a blurb with recipe, a memory with recipe, a tribute with recipe… and pictures.. a picture of the person.. a picture of the recipe (preferably both) but either works.   Please send this to:  Breastcancerebook@gmail.com  and we’ll send you the release to sign and love you forever and ever and ever 😉
  • We’re going to post at least one recipe and story every. single. day in October on both A Southern Fairytale and on Once A Month Mom and then we’ll compile all the stories and recipes into an e-book that can be purchased and EVERY SINGLE SOLITARY cent will be donated to the Susan G Komen Foundation.   (Tricia and I are not taking a single solitary cent for any of this)
  • Tweet with #saving2ndbase
  • Let’s help kick cancer’s ass and save those ta ta’s!

And remember y’all… Save a Life, Grope Your Wife 🙂

  1. Thank you for doing this. I just learned about it today. I know it’s a little late, but I sent you a submission for the e-book. I hope you can still get it in. I also wrote a post about breast cancer and the Saving Second Base project, with links, here: in with The Superhero.

Breast cancer research is a cause close to my heart. My daughter is a four-year survivor. She was diagnosed at the age of 33, while pregnant. She is now cancer-free after a very hard battle.

Thanks again. this is a wonderful thing you are doing.

  2. Dear Rachel,

    I found the link in Tara’s blog…
I took the button and linked to my blog.
I sympathize with your project… and I wish you to reach as many women as possible!
This may do a great difference…
I lost my dad because of colon cancer… I’m getting every two years the check up and this way I feel better and I’m less scared.

Pity I don’t have my novel in English language 😉
I write often about everyday life… with some cruel reality, just hoping the readers get the strong message!

    Have a lovely Sunday
