As a participating blogger in the Start With Substance Program I’m sharing my favorite recipe using Quaker Oats. and it isn’t oatmeal. 😉

kitchen-sink-cookies

This recipe makes about 5 dozen cookies and when I mention that I’m making them, there’s usually a line of people waiting for them.

Kitchen Sink Cookies

  • 2 C Brown Sugar
  • 2 C White Sugar
  • 1 3/4 C quick cook oats
  • 2 C unsweetened applesauce
  • 4 eggs
  • 4 C all purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 C cornflakes cereal
  • 1 1/2 C chopped walnuts
  • 1 1/4 C flaked coconut
  • 4 dashes cinnamon
  • you can add 1 to 2  C raisins or craisins or dried cherries or chocolate chips
  1. Pre-heat oven to 350 F
  2. Cream together Brown Sugar, White Sugar, Vanilla, Applesauce and Eggs
  3. Add flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and oatmeal. Mix well
  4. In a large bowl mix cornflakes, nuts and coconut (this is where you would add the *extras*)
  5. Slowly add the batter to this bowl, mixing well until the entire batter is completely mixed.
  6. Drop by Tablespoonfuls onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 15 minutes or until they are a lovely golden brown.

These cookies are amazing and will disappear quickly. They are crunchy and chewy with just a hint of sweetness. My family can’t get enough of them.

  2. Okay, I am the worst cook ever! These cookies were so flat and lifeless (although they tasted delicious). They spread out over the entire pan. Disaster! The were thin wafers. What did I do wrong?

Also, the recipe doesn’t state where to put the vanilla and cinnamon. I added the vanilla to the creamed mixture and the cinnamon at the end.

    Help!

  3. Krystyn, that has nothing to do with you being a bad cook. This can happen for many reasons! that they tasted good means you made them right! YAY!
But, it is so discouraging and frustrating when cookies fall flat or don’t come out how we want them too.

Here are some general reasons why cookies fall flat:

    1. the dough is too warm, consider chilling the dough for a bit before cooking
    2. if the cookie sheet is hot when the dough goes on it
    3. if your kitchen is warm and humid
    4. if you use an oil/margarine instead of real butter

Just a few to help ya out. I’ll email you, too.
    MWAH! Rachel
