Football and Texas

They’re practically synonymous, right?

Around here, football means family, food, and friends.

If there’s a game on – there’s a crowd and cheering and sharing and laughter and memories being made.

My very first football game that I can remember was at Kyle Field, watching the Aggies.  I have no idea who they were playing, but I remember the excitement, the power, the joy, the smells, the cold hard metal seat under me and I remember the students standing the whole game.

My blood still pumps faster through my veins and my breath hitches and catches whenever I hear the Aggie War Hymn.  What can I say?  I’m a Texas girl, born and bred.

As I grew up – football became more and more about the gathering, the food, the family, the friends… the memories.

Nathan’s a football guy – dyed in the wool, played football in High School, knows the stats, the numbers, the players and coaches… he’s that guy, and I love it (and him).

Over the past 16 years, {I’ve been with him for 16 years… holy hell, y’all}

Over the past 16 years, I’ve developed an appreciation for the dedication it takes to be a football player. I’ve developed definite favorites among teams, the players, the coaches.  Whether it’s High School Football (which is definitely my favorite… there’s nothing like a high school football game watched from the stands on a Friday night), College, Professional….  it’s become a part of our lives, and I love it.

I have to admit though, for me, like every gathering and event.. it’s about the food.  The treats, the snacks…

There’s a reason I became a food blogger, y’all.

I have an entire pinterest board dedicated to food and drinks that I want to serve/think would be good to make for game days, and I contribute to an additional board by Fisher Nuts where I, and many others, share some of our favorite treats.

This year, we’re having a big block party and we’ve been tossing around ideas for what we want to make, and what will work best for our big group.

We haven’t come up with an exact game plan yet, but I know what a few of my favorite go to eats and treats for gatherings are, and thanks to Fisher Nuts, I’ve been able to do a lot of recipe testing, and playing and I am going to share a few of my favorites with y’all today.

  • There are few things that disappear as quickly as a bowl of spiced nuts, and these Honey Chipotle Glazed Spice Nuts will be gone faster than you can say – Honey Chipotle Glazed Spiced Nuts

  • These Bourbon Glazed Candied Pecans will have people licking their fingers, and asking for the recipe, or offering to pay you to make them for them – either way 🙂

  • If you have some chocolate lovers coming over, or you just enjoy a really rich, decadent, chocolatey-nutty dessert that melts in your mouth…. try this Cranberry, Walnut, Rum Fudge

  • Are your chips and crackers lonely?  If so, might I suggest this 5 Cheese Party Cheeseball.  This is a plate cleaning, finger licking, leave nothing behind recipe.

    1. I’d invite you over if you lived closer! Going to try a 4 pepper papaya salsa and green pepper cilantro rice to go with our fajitas 🙂 I bet you’ve got some yumminess going on, too!

  1. Rachel,
I can’t agree more. Friday night High School home games are a great time not only for my daughter, but for me as well. We get to hang out with many of our neighbors, build relationships, have great food, and also a lot of fun. Your recipe ideas are great, especially the Bourbon Glazed Candied Pecans, they look awesome.
Thanks for your post, I really enjoyed reading it.
