If you love to cook, if you’re passionate about creating delicious dishes and sharing them with friends and family  –  you know the importance of good knives.

Knives that always perform – that will slice a tomato cleanly and smoothly…

Knives that will cut through a fresh loaf of bread without smooshing it beyond belief…

Good knives are something that you simply can’t be without.

Knives that are well balanced, that fit in your hand, and that cut cleanly, swiftly and sharply through your ingredients are absolutely priceless

Perhaps you’ve noticed some new knives showing up in my recipe photographs over the past month…

I’m a very lucky girl

I’m a Chicago Cutlery Ambassador and as such, I got some gorgeous new knives to play with.

The way these knives fit in your hand, the way they balance …

I’ve had lots of expensive, name brand knives in my kitchen, but I’ve never had knives like these.

The curve where the handle meets your thumb and palm…

The guides that show your thumb where to go, that help you to grip the knife perfectly and aid you in holding the knife to use it to your best advantage.

These knives are wickedly sharp, beautiful to look at and a dream to use.

I have several of these Chicago Cutlery Design Pro knives and these are without a doubt the knives that I will give as wedding presents, Christmas presents, housewarming gifts and birthday presents to my foodie friends.

Thanks to the generosity of the Chicago Cutlery people, I have a Chicago Cutlery DesignPro Partoku Knife and a Chicago Cutlery DesignPro Chef Knife to give away to one of y’all today.

These are without a doubt the two knives that I use most frequently – and I know they will quickly become your two favorite knives, too.

  1. Well, you already know my answer: how ninjatastic they are. But since ninjatasticness can never be measured, created, nor destroyed, I will have to say that in addition to how well they hold an edge (which is of course obvious), I look for good weight balance. Cutting is all about translating fluid motion into a singular point (my dad taught me that as a kid). The better weight balance your knife has, the better it can translate your ninjatasticness to a tomato.

  2. I am a sucker for a GREAT knife. I have tried various ones, but am always let down. I want a knife that really can slice through veggies as if they are butter. I want a knife that fits in my hand comfortably. And in the words of my 3rd grader, all in all, I want a knife that does all the wonderful things it is actually advertised doing! ;o)

  3. I consider how they feel in my hand and whether or not they would be difficult to keep sharpened. (I want to keep my knives sharp but I don’t want to have to have some special training or know-how to accomplish that.)

  4. Honestly, I’ve never bought a knife. We have the most craptastic knives ever. I hate them. I would like something that we could sharpen ourselves and that fits nicely into my hand though.

  5. Sounds corny, but the way it feels in my hand first. Sharpness second. I have a Chicago Cutlery Bread knife I got for a gift at my wedding shower almost 16 years ago and it is still my favorite knife by far!! Love Chicago Cutlery.

  6. We got our first Chicago Cutlery knives as a wedding present. Needless to say this was before tweeting, but everyonje that knows me, knows I love my knives 🙂

  7. I don’t pin or social media, but I do ;ove trolling through the pininterest sites and there are some fine photos of the new designs.

  8. Besides an excellent blade, I like a balanced weight and an ease in the hand. These look fantastic–no rivets to fall out and more sanitary. Great giveaway.

  9. Mostly, the most important thing would be how it feels. These grips look awesome! You know the balance and the blades will be good as long as you look for a good quality knife. The grip/handle is just about the only thing that can vary much. I’ll be adding these to my Christmas list!

  10. I’ve been looking for a new knife and the most important thing I’ve noticed is the fit in your hand. Some just feel awkward. I think a knife that feels comfortable in your hand is going to give you better control. And I’m kind of accident prone so I need all the help I can get.

  11. Fit and how it feels in my hand are how I choose my knives. I also see what I would use the knives for. I like to be able to get the most out of a few essential kitchen items.

  12. To me, a great knife is razor sharp and holds its edge well… It’s a bonus if it is as pretty as those two knives! Those are gorgeous!!

  13. Obviously a knife’s sharpness is essential, but it is truly more than that- with what ease does it slice through a tomato and a block of cheese, because it should do both with relative ease. How it feels in my hand, the weight and balance and comfort, are also extremely important.

  14. I want a knife that cuts sharp and is comfortable in my hand. I have not seen these knives and would love to give them a try.

  15. I love a knife that feels like it belongs in my hand, and that it means to do business. Balance and pretty are good, too, but when it’s an extension of my arm, I’m in love.

  16. I love a sharp knife, but being properly balanced is so important to me! Need to feel like I am holding something substantial!

  17. I really notice the weight and feel of the knife in my hand. My Chicago Cutlery set is over 20 years old and still going strong. We tried to replace it with another brand that was a Christmas gift, but went back to my old set after one use of the “fancy, new” set!

  18. I like a knife that holds its sharpness! Ah so sweet if it can slice a tomato without squishing or easily slice some whole wheat bread! You are making me crave a BLT!

  19. I look for two things in a good knife, a good solid comfortable handle that is easy to grip, and it being sharp enough to cut what I need it too, be it a steak or some veggies from the garden. Thanks for the chance! 🙂
