Caramelized Onions, cayenne and black peppers, butter, mayonnaise, sour cream and cream cheese combine to make a slightly spicy, creamy, savory totally tonguegasmic dip that really and truly tastes just like that fried onion blossom that you dip in that slightly spicy creamy dip, you get in restaurants.
This dip is one of the appetizers that I served when Sarah and her family came for dinner, it’s equally delicious with salty potato chips or crisp cold sliced veggies.
Cut 2 medium yellow onions in half and slice into half moon rings
Melt 1/2 stick (4 Tbsp) of butter (mmmmmmmmmmm butter π it really makes everything better) in a skillet
Once the butter is melted add in the onions and seasonings
cook slowly, stirring occasionally until the onions are all caramelized and soft and your kitchen smells like a little piece of heaven.Β Remove the onions from the heat source and allow them to cool a bit.
Mix together softened cream cheese, mayonnaise and sour cream
When the onions are cool, mix the sour cream mixture with 1/2 to 3/4 of the onions (this depends on your onion-y lovin’ palate) and then top with a few more for the pretty factor.
This dip should be served at room temperature and made just prior to serving.
Perfect for game day parties!

You can SOOO do this, Theresa! Go, Theresa! GO!
It’s actually really simple to make. Few ingredients and the steps look like a lot but, they aren’t. I just break them down π
French onion dip is one of my favorites! I think I ate an entire tub over July 4, but now I’m excited to try it from scratch. Thanks for sharing.
I can eat onion dip by the pound. And a warm dip.. YUM! <3
Looks good! I’m not a fan of cream cheese- but I do really enjoy some caramelized onions. The other flavors in this sound delicious!
hmmmmm you could take out the cream cheese, if you wanted too… but, it’s more about the texture.. you really don’t “taste” the cream cheese.
π Mozzarella stuffed Jalapenos you say… YUM
Oh, delicious! We love onions!
Thanks for hosting.
This is awesome onion-y π

WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO ME??? Warm dips are my biggest weakness. Especially since they are so awesome on slices of warm bread. It looks so amazing I can hardly contain myself. π

I’m just not an onion fan. I like them really, really small where I don’t know they are in the food. Like a kid basically.
Oh my goodness! I’m at my dad’s house right now and he just fell in love with this recipe π I think that you have made a friend for life…he is onion obsessed.
Anything with caramelized onions gets my vote! And it’s gluten free! Yeah!! I will definitely be making this. As always thanks for hosting.
I love carmelized onions–that looks so good!
Bless you and your yummy food!!! LOVE this!! <3
Wow! This looks like my kind of dip. Yummy comfort food. Thanks for sharing!
oooh, this sounds awesome! Here in Germany you just can’t get the same sort of dips that you can in the US. Not that this looks even remotely as funky as anything out of a can or tub. Definitely want to try this soon!
I’ve never been a cooked onion fan but I have to admit, your’s looks delicious! Thanks for hosting!
Potato chips and onion dip! Yummy!!!! My husband will be thrilled! π
Hey Rachel! I came to visit you on Mouthwatering mondays a few times over the summer and for some reason we couldn’t connect. Glad I stopped back in today, as school is back in session and here you are! LOVELY! I always love to catch up on your southern fairytale! We have just changed the name of our tuesday blog hop to Hearth n Soul and are very excited about the refocus on food from your hearth…to feed your soul! Stop by if you can and say hi! My my, I adore anything onion dip, but this looks extra good because of the caramelized onions! No packaged soup mix here missy! I love it! My recipe this week is a lovely childhood food memory and my first attempt at making guanabana tropical ice cream! Enjoy! HUGS! Alex@amoderatelife
Love onion dip! I have never done this before. Fun!
I made this yesterday and I already single handedly ate it all without sharing any with anyone. All I can say is WOW! This is awesome. I will never buy or make any other onion dip again. Thanks for sharing this fantastic recipe.
Hello Rachel,
Thanks for hosting. Have linked up my favorite dessert for this event…
Um, yum! That is all I can say about that!
Um, yes please. This sounds AMAZING! π
I started a tradition last year where I make a dip/appetizer every Sunday during football. I made this dip yesterday and we loved it (including a 14 & 11 year old). Probably not a big deal but I did run my knife through the onions after they were carmelized just so I didn’t have too many large pieces. I can’t wait to make it again to share with friends. Thanks so much for Mouthwatering Mondays!!
Oooh, Rachel. Girl. That stuff looks so nom.
